Wouldn’t it be nice to live in a bungalow by the seaside, wake up to the view of the sea, and walk down the stairs to have breakfast cooked for you in the morning?
Well, we did just that at If Ocean B&B at Hualien, Taiwan!
And the best part is, we didn’t need to break our wallets to get this experience. Compared to Taipei, Hualien is alot less developed and the accommodation prices were much cheaper. I went by the reviews at Agoda and as this place was quite highly recommended, I decided to go for it, although there were some comments that this B&B was quite far from the town of Hualien.
But the moment we saw the view from our room, I knew that the distance was worth it….
Although the view is nothing like the Great Ocean Road back in Melbourne, it’s always nice to live by the seaside isn’t it? Our senses were immediately calmed when we were greeted with the sight of the ocean and the mountains, after travelling since 10pm the previous night. (The building in the middle of the picture is another accommodation in the works. This area has so much potential for tourism!)
And with such a homely setting, we finally felt like we were on a holiday!
It was still a little early for dinner, so we took a walk down to the beach.
After breathing in a little of the sea air, it was time to look for dinner!
The reviews online recommended a seafood place within walking distance from the B&B. The host at the B&B recommended that as well so that settled our dinner place!
So how it works is that you choose the fresh seafood that you want the restaurant to cook for you.
The restaurant staff will then ask you how you want the food to be cooked i.e. Boiled, fried, steamed etc.
And here’s our food!
All the dishes tasted light and not overly oily, making it such a wholesome meal! Probably the most unhealthy dish were the deep fried oysters that both my brother & I enjoyed. They were crumbed and had a wonderful crunch to it. My favourite dish was the squid because it tasted so fresh and it went really well with the chilli – simple flavours yet so delicious!
After dinner, we took a walk back to our B&B, had our hot showers, did a family prayer & sharing before retiring to bed early 🙂
In the morning, it was nice to wake up to this…
…and to the sound of breakfast being made in the kitchen!
While we waited for our breakfasts, we helped ourselves to the free-flow espresso coffee.
Shortly after we were seated, our breakfasts arrived.
On the breakfast plate, we had a club sandwich, pumpkin soup with garlic toast and some fresh fruit. It’s nice to have a breakfast specially prepared for you instead of those hotel continental breakfasts, and after such a good night’s rest!
After breakfast, there was still a little time before our tour guide came for our Taroko Gorge tour, so I went up to the rooftop with my brother to do our Quiet Time 🙂
This was the most relaxing and recharging part of our Taiwan trip. The warm hospitality of the B&B staff, the comfortable and cosy settings, and lovely natural surroundings made it a very enjoyable stay overall.
I heard that there are a lot of good B&Bs around the area as well but I don’t think you’ll lose out if you ever choose to stay with If Ocean B&B!
